Professor Steinunn Kristjánsdóttir

Steinunn Kristjánsdóttir completed her doctorate in archeology from the University of Gothenburg in 2004. She was a part-time teacher at the University of Iceland in 2005, but a year later she was employed as a lecturer in archeology in a joint position of the National Museum of Iceland and the University of Iceland. Steinunn was promoted to the position of associate professor in June 2009 and then to professor in July 2012. Since 2018, she has worked as a professor at the University of Iceland. Steinunn was the head of the Department of Philosophy, History and Archaeology 2018–2022.

Steinunn's teaching areas lie within medieval studies and gender archaeology. Her main areas of research are medieval archaeology, church history, monasteries and monastic activities.
